Monterey
Bay Rose Society's
33rd Annual Rose Show
May 11, 2013
The Monterey Bay Rose Society gives a heartfelt thank you to Gustavo Beyer and his staff at Alladin Nursery for allowing us to have our annual rose show in a secure tent at the rear of the nursery. The location has turned out to be an excellent venue for our show.
Best in Show and Floribunda Queen of Show went to Joe Ghio with a spectacular Wild West. Queen of Show was a grandiflora, Spellcaster, entered by Tomiko Edmiston. King of Show was won by Sandee Kolter with a hybrid tea, Gemini. Princess of Show was John Mahoney's Ultimate Pink. Congratulation to all the winners! See below for a list of all the winners.
Once again, thanks to Joe Ghio for orchestrating the judging and seeing to it that the judging ran smoothly and on time. As a fund raiser, Judy and Jim Sauvé created a silent auction table to raffle off many rose-related prizes. And thanks to Janey Leonardich, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and as a result didn't have time to enter her roses!
Free samples of Corralitos Meat Market's delicious sausages were available for snacking. A band and a latin guitarist provided music for those who wanted to relax and sip a glass of wine provided for tasting by a local winery. Fresh strawberries were also available for sale. Although the weather was beautiful for most of the day, the tent did warm up a bit in the afternoon, causing some of the roses to wilt.
Also special thank you to our ARS judges: Jolene Adams, Dolores Moffett, Jennifer Galli, and to our National Gardeners Club judges, Sharon Hiatt and Kiwi DeVoy.
